Why MSKIN PRO use the superior Vitamin A derivative ‘Retinaldehyde’

Vitamin A is an integral active in a professional skincare regime. It is one of the only actives to be clinically proven to increase collagen production, cell turnover & repair DNA damage. It is highly effective for aging, sun damage & acne. However, there are so many different forms of Vitamin A that it can be hard for a consumer to determine what is best for their skin type.

Forms of Vitamin A

  1. Retinoic Acid. The only form the body can use.
  2. Retinaldehyde. The body’s natural storage form of Vitamin A. Less found in skincare due to high cost.
  3. Retinol. More commonly used in skin care due to low price point.
  4. Retinyl Palmitate & Retinyl Acetate. Antioxidant version. More commonly used in skin care due to low price point.
  5. Beta Carotene. Not a Vitamin A. Is a precursor to Vitamin A.

In the body, the conversion process goes a little something like this

  1. Beta Carotene in to Retinyl Palmitate,
  2. Retinyl Palmitate into Retinol
  3. Retinol into Retinaldehyde
  4. and Retinaldehyde into Retinoic Acid.

All of these vitamin A derivatives are important for skin health, but because of the size of some of the derivative molecules, they struggle to penetrate the epidermis when applied topically. This can result in skin irritation and sun-sensitivity that some people experience with common forms of Vitamin A.

Research has shown that Retinaldehyde absorbs faster and more efficiently making it clinically proven to work 11 times faster than Retinol.

Retinaldehyde Vs Retinoic Acid

Retinoic Acid applied topically can be irritating, inflammatory and cause over exfoliation or shedding.

Retinaldehyde, is a smaller molecule than Retinol, and is the immediate precursor of Retinoic Acid. The skin will convert Retinaldehyde to Retinoic Acid in the amount it needs for use and then stores the rest in adipose tissue for future use.

SUMMARY

MSKIN PRO uses Retinaldehyde instead of alternative Vitamin A derivatives because:

  1. Retinaldehyde absorbs faster and more efficiently making it clinically-proven to work 11 times faster than Retinol.
  2. Retinaldehyde is also never found in the blood stream meaning it is safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding.
  3. It is 1000 times more effective at stimulating collagen production than Retinol, while also being gentler to the skin.
  4. It DOES NOT cause sun sensitivty and will not increase your risk of UVA/UVB damage or hyperpigmentation like Retinol will, this means you can provide your skin with an AM/daytime dose.
  5. Suitable for even the most sensitive of skins.
